Fine large scale early 20th century map of California showing the state on the cusp of its great expansion.

This is a very nice example of one of Rand McNally's largest "pocket maps", which became extremely popular during their publishing life. It shows the state, divided into its counties, at the beginning of the century when the film industry was just establishing itself in Los Angeles and the port and facilities of that settlement were beginning to be noticed, hence the many shipping routes now originating there.

A list of the railroad companies operating in the state is present on the upper right and insets in the same location focus on San Diego, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Original colour. [USA9947]
