Map showing European settlements in India and Sri Lanka, extending to include parts of Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal, Tibet, Bangladesh, and Nepal. Features a decorative title cartouche in bottom right corner. 

This fine map of 18th century India has several points of great interest. As per the cartouche, its primary function was to show the European trading factories in India, so mainly Madras (Chennai) and Calcutta (Calicut) for the English, Pondicherry (Puducherry) for the French, Surat for the Dutch and Tranquebar (Tharangambadi) for the Danes among others. The map also shows various regions, such as "Deckan", the "Carnatick" and the "Scind". There are also various ethnic groups shown such as "Scheiks" or Sikhs in the Punjab.
