Very unusual working copy of a map of Manila printed by the
Engineering Division of the American Forces, Pacific. (AFPAC). 

This attractive map of Manila was separately issued in large
numbers and distributed among the American Forces operating in the Pacific. It
was first issued in August of 1945, shortly after the American Forces had
re-taken the city in March of the same year. It was almost certainly based in
earlier surveys as there had been no time to make a detailed survey of the city. This example is an edition with small updates to September of 1945.

This map however bears extensive manuscript additions which
were relevant to a previous owner. These include Ordnance Dumps, Signalling
Stations, Engineering Compounds and Cemeteries. Helpfully, a detailed key is present
on the left. Many of the terms are in full but several are abbreviated. For
convenience, the abbreviated terms are as follows:

C.W.S. – Central Wireless Station

The manuscript additions are carefully drawn and coloured.
Bearing in mind their extent, this map was most likely owned by
an officer or a non-commissioned officer.
