The Jubilee of Speke's Discovery of Victoria Nyanza
Four maps showing the progress of the exploration of East Africa to celebrate the 50th anniversary of John Hanning Speke's discovery of the source of the Nile.
The first map (upper left) shows East Africa as it was known to Claudius Ptolemy and other ancient Greek and Roman geographers. The second (bottom left) immediately pre-dates Burton and Speke's expedition in search of the source of the Nile. The third (top right) marks the routes of Burton, Speke, and Grant and their discoveries. The fourth (lower right) shows East Africa in 1909 at the time of publication.
Printed colour. [AFR6240]
