Municipio de Buenos Aires y Parte de Partido de Avellaneda
Detailed and striking plan of the Municipality of Buenos Aires or the autonomous city. The southern part of the map shows a section of the Partido the Avellaneda, part of the Greater Buenos Aires conurbation.
This plan was part of series detailing the explosive growth of the city in the late 19th and early 20th century. The municipality is the central and commercial heart of the Greater Buenos Aires area. This map was issued in 1918 but a note on the upper left states that this was the 8th edition, suggesting that it was regularly updated. The Partido of Avellaneda, south of the municipality and separated by the River Matanzas, does not form part of the autonomous area and is part of both Greater Buenos Aires and the Buenos Aires Province.
The firm of Pablo Ludwig is notable for their output of material relating to both the city and Argentina. Although little is known about their business, many of their maps are held in institutions around the world tracking the development of both Argentina and Buenos Aires.
