Bowles's map of the county of Sussex, derived from Emanuel Bowen's "Atlas Anglicanus."

Both gegraphically and stylistically, this map is a close derivation of Bowen's map of Sussex first issued in the 1750s as a separate issue and in a larger format. Bowen pioneered the concept of a collection of text panels focusing on major towns, families and historical events of each county. His maps were also the most accurate county maps of the time.

His great survey was published in three different versions, "The Large English Atlas", the "Royal English Atlas" and the "Atlas Anglicanus" the smallest and the model used here by Bowles.

On this occasion, Bowles does use full original body colour.
