Small panoramic map of Edinburgh by Munster, cited as the first printed depiction of the city.

Munster based his map from information provided by Alexander Alesius or Ales, a fugitive protestant Scottish priest who became a noted writer, theologian and religious scholar as well as a physician. He had been born in Edinburgh and had to flee the country upon adopting Lutheranism. His name is credited above the map. 

The view focuses on the dock area, as if looking from a ship on the River Leith. Important buildings are keyed with letters to a list below the map. The French text above and below describes Scotland and the city. Coloured. [SCOT 1825]
