Detailed survey of the Land of Midian, from the Gulf of Akabah south to Al Wajh, by the officers of the Egyptian General Staff under the command of Captain Richard Francis Burton.
Burton (1821-1890) was a talented British explorer, geographer, translator, author and diplomat. He achieved many notable feats in his life but one of the most famous is his expedition with Richard Hanning Speke to find the source of the Nile. This resulted in one of the greatest geographical debates and controversies of the 19th century.
Midian refers to the geographical regions that covers North Western Arabia mentioned in both the Qur'an and the Hebrew Bible. Printed colour. [MEAST4620]
