Unusual post World War I map of the Near and Middle East showing several historically significant geo-political features.

This early twentieth century map of the Near and Middle East is geo-politically interesting as it shows several features which still reverberate in world affairs to this day. These include the clear marking of the Sykes-Picot Line in the Levant, marking the divisions between English and French influence. Eastern Anatolia shows “Wilsonian Armenia”, or the borders claimed by the Armenian Republic at the Treaty of Sevres. President Wilson of the United States supported these claims hence the name. These claims included former Ottoman territory in eastern Anatolia, access to the southern shores of the Black Sea, and the city of Erzurum.

The map also shows the short lived Greek ownership of Smyrna (Izmir), granted to the Greeks after the War by the Treaty of Sevres.
