Map of the Explorations from Beltana Station to the City of Perth
Sketch map of southern Australia showing the route of Ernest Giles's 1875 expedition across the continent from Port Augusta to Perth. This expedition was largely funded by Sir Thomas Elder, a wealthy Scottish-Australian rancher and philanthropist who among other achievements is credited with the introduction of camels to Australia. Elder's camel ranch at Beltana Station is marked on the map as the starting point of the expedition.
Notes along the route describe the country, the availability of water, and the types of vegetation found by the expedition. This map was drawn by Giles to illustrate an account of the expedition in the Journal of the Royal Geographical Society. The main track is marked by a red line.
