Chart of the North Atlantic between Greenland and Shetland showing sea surface temperature data collected between 1838 and 1868. The twelve voyages during which this data was collected are listed in a table between Greenland and Iceland, and their routes are marked on the map with dotted or dashed lines.
The thick red and blue lines are isothermal curves marking the average location of 48°f water in May (blue lines) and September (red lines) in the years 1840, 1844, 1846, and 1868. 48°f was chosen as it was the annual average temperature of the British Isles at the time of publishing.
Printed colour.
