Beautifully coloured map of the Kingdom of
Aragon in the 17th century. The map shows Aragon oriented to the
west, bordered by France and the Iberian regions of Navarra, Castile, Valencia, and Catalonia. 

In the lower-left corner is a dedication to “the most
illustrious deputies of the Kingdom of Aragon,” accompanied by twin heraldic
shields. The left shield displays the Pales of Aragon (or four pallets Gules),
the historic royal arms of the Crown of Aragon. The right shield
bears the 17th-century Arms of the Kingdom of Sardinia: a red St. George’s
cross on a silver field with four Moor’s heads, reflecting Sardinia’s
incorporation under Aragonese rule. Both shields are surmounted by a royal
crown, symbolising the sovereignty of the territories depicted.
