Georgian imagining of the route of Hannibal's expedition from southern Spain to Italy.
This is Wilkinson's map of the western Mediterranean showing North Africa, Spain, southern France and Italy.
The focus of the map is the marking of the route of Hannibal's expedition to Italy to campaign against the Romans. The the source for this route were the chronicles of the period written by the great classic writers although some of the geographical position would have been Wilkinson's interpretation.
Both Carthage in modern Tunisia and Rome are clearly marked as is New Carthage, or now Cartagena in Spain as the origin of the expedition.
Original colour. [MED2400]
