Accurate map of the Southwestern United States including modern New Mexico, Arizona, California and Nevada. Although detailed, in 1842, Texas was a separate Republic and not part of the Union. 

Much of the detail on this map is based on John Arrowsmith's map of Mexico first issued in 1832 and then updated to reflect the political upheaval in this region, namely the declaration of independence by Texas. The focus of this map is what was then seen as New Mexico and California. Following British recognition of Texas as an independent Republic, most maps published there separated it from Mexico.

However, differing from the Arrowsmith, the borders of this map omit the "stove pipe" or the assertion that the northwestern border of Texas originate at the source of the Rio Grande and the Arkansas Rivers in the Rockies, leaving the matter, unresolved.
