This map is generally attributed to Selina Hall, one of many largely-uncredited women who took over cartographic firms after their husbands' deaths. Unhelpfully, Selina signed her maps 'S. Hall', which has meant that her work is often confused with her husband Sidney Hall's. Sidney Hall died in 1831, so it is unclear whether this map was his creation or Selina's, but we do know that Selina continued to update this map of Australia well into the 1850s, always under the 'S. Hall' imprint.

Sidney Hall's New General Atlas was published in multiple editions between 1830 and c.1860 by various iterations of the Longman firm of publishers. Editions after Sidney's death in 1831 were frequently updated by Selina Hall to show contemporary developments, for example the creation and division of Victoria and Queensland.
