The shape of the peninsula was taken from the much earlier maps originally published by the firm of Arrowsmith and based on the information compiled by Carsten Niebuhr. Arrowsmith's map was first issued in 1817, before the new survey of the Gulf by the Bombay Marine in the early 1820s. This accounts for the relatively out of date depiction of the Persian Gulf, lacking the Qatari Peninsula entirely. Dubai ('Dehay') and Abu Dhabi ('Boothabeen') are both mentioned on the map, as are Bahrain and Kuwait. Wyld has made some updates to the interior of the Peninsula, adding caravan routes and multiple oases along those routes, and many new place names in northern Arabia.
